The amphora comes from a shipwrecked cargo vessel (Grand Congloué B) that was explored by Capt. Cousteau and Prof. Benoît in 1952-3. The ship\u2019s hold contained some 1,200\u20131,500 Roman wine amphorae made at or near Cosa in Etruria.
