2001 09 John Walker Watson Harleys Blue Ridge Parkway VA. My brother John Watson and I on our Harley-Davidson motorcycles, his and FXR and mine a Sportster (my first Harley, I gave it to myself when I was 48, because I always wanted a Harley before I was 50 years old, I think it was 1999, but that was twenty years ago now, haha. This was on our "Virginia, Going to Granddaddy's" trip when we rode from Florida to Virginia, first John rode from Palm Bay. FL to Gainesville, then he and I left Hog Town for Lexington, Virginia where my grandparents, my mother's parents and cousins etc lived. Lexington is near the Blue Ridge Parkway so I know we rode on it several times. Either right before we took this photo or right after John just about drove his bike over the cliff in the parking lot of the viewpoint! From Lexington we ended up in Myrtle Beach, SC where I wanted to spend the night but John wanted to burn home, so we compromised and ended up in Charleston. Next day we left for Gainesville and finished our circuit. What I recall about that ride home was the piece of road, US 27 from Perry to Mayo, FL, where, by gum, it always starts raining right about the Sherriff's complex just south of Perry, where we had to suit up, all they way basically back to Gainesville in the pouring thunderstorm rain. As we were heading south I was constantly trying to see through the rain for my brother in front of me while trying to catch up with him going 70 mph and dodging lighting bolts that were striking every high powerline tower we passed on our way. Since I'm writing this we made it through the storm, but I can remember almost every time I rode that stretch of road it would pour down raining either one way or the other!
