Petar Lubarda is one of the greatest Yugoslavia and Serbia painters of the 20th century. He was a full member of AFAS and external member of the Academy . Lubarda has left a letter to AFAS required that each presentation of his works should be necessarily emphasized that he is a Serbian painter.

He was born in Montenegro. Began studying painting at the Belgrade School of Art in 1925, and continues briefly in Paris in 1926 at the Académie des Beaux Arts. In Montenegro returns in 1932 and the same year he came to Belgrade . In Paris, the second time he lived from 1938 to 1940th. His first solo exhibition was in 1925 in Niksic in Montenegro and then in 1927 and 1929 in Paris and Rome. Since 1927, he participated in numerous group exhibitions at home and abroad.

The war years from 1941 to 1944, he carried out in captivity in concentration camps in Germany and Italy .

From 1945 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. In 1946 he went to Cetinje, Montenegro, where he takes part in the formation of the first professional art institutions in Montenegro: Opens the Art School in Cetinje, where he was a lecturer and director. School in 1947-1948. shifts to Herceg Novi, Montenegro. He came back to Belgrade in 1950 and stayed there until his death. Lubarda paintings was donated to the legacy of Belgrade in 1973. He was married to Vera (died 2008). Their house was converted into a legacy and renovated in 2012, and is open to the public in 2014. In 1997 was founded the greatest recognition "Petar Lubarda" which is awarded for Fine Arts in Montenegro.
