The Revuers were a musical comedy troupe formed by Betty Comden and Adolph Green in New York City. Beginning in 1938 they performed at the Village Vanguard, a club in Greenwich Village. Among the members of the company was a young comedian named Judy Tuvim, who later changed her name to Judy Holliday, and Green's good friend, a young musician named Leonard Bernstein, who frequently accompanied them on the piano, Alvin Hammer and John Frank. The Revuers played engagements at various New York night clubs including the Village Vanguard, Spivy's Roof, the Blue Angel, the Rainbow Room, and the Trocadero in Hollywood. The Revuers had a loyal following and even their own weekly radio show on NBC. The act's success earned them a movie offer and the Revuers travelled west to appear in \u201cGreenwich Village\u201d, a 1944 movie starring Carmen Miranda and Don Ameche, but their roles were so small they barely were noticed, and they quickly returned to New York. The group disbanded in early 1944.
