This is a postcard, panorama of the Down Town area of Salina Kansas, at the corner of Santa Fe, and Iron Street. According to its reverse side, it was when the city had a population of 12,344 people. According to the "Salina Daily Union" newspaper from Salina Kansas, for Friday, May 12, 1916, this was the cities population at that time.

It was a roll up postcard, {similar to the way a poster is rolled up}. After the person wrote their message on the empty space under the text promoting the city, the user would then roll it up, and place a stamp on it, then place it with their regular mail. It is not obvious if the roll was meant to be taped. The image was at the center of the roll, while the side with the printed message and section for correspondence, is facing outward. It is more then likely a souvenir meant to be framed and not used, because if the picture was outward, the image would get scrapped and scuffed with handling. The reverse side of long card, with its text, and area for stamp, are the segments that anyone handling this would be able to read, unless they unwound it. Another interesting fact is that it required 2 cent stamp if there was writing on it, but one a 1 cent stamp if the sender didn't send a message with it, something the mail carrier wouldn't be able to verify unless they unwound the card.

The postcard itself measures 27 and a 1/2 inches in length, and 4 and 3/8 inches in width. The electric trolley/streetcar track in the image ran from North to South on Santa Fe Avenue. The other street is Iron Street, these two streets' intersection separates the North from South, and East from West, addresses of the town.
