Flag rank officers of the U.S. Navy start with one star for Commodore, two stars for Rear Admiral, three stars for Vice Admiral, four stars for Admiral and four stars and two anchors for Admiral of the Navy George Dewey. At the end of World War Two the rank of Fleet Admiral was created for five admirals and it was five stars forming a pentagon.
