This five-cent postage stamp depicts American Frontiersman and Statesman David or "Davy" Crockett (1786-1836) who is most famous for his role at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas where his death and the 187 other deaths would lead to Texas claiming their independence from Mexico. He has become a legend in American folklore. The stamp depicts him with wearing his buckskin shirt, holding his rifle "Ol'Betsy," and wearing the famous racoon skin hat with foliage of trees in the background.
