Our Gold Lake camping trip in 1963.
While I camped a fair amount (at least as a city kid) with the Boy Scouts, and Horace was sometimes one of the adults that accompanied out troop, I think this may have been the only time the two of us went camping alone. And just as an aside because I’ve got to get it out, typing so sucks since my stroke. Yea, it was “minor,” but it is definitely a challenge. Fucking fingers just don’t do what I want them to do.
- A local waterfall, I don’t remember where exactly. :(
- A chipmunk on the picnic table we used and ate at.
- I believe this is the same chipmunk, this time eating (probably peanut butter) off my finger. Having raised guinea pigs, I was familiar with the feel of tiny claws and mouths on my digits. :)
- U.S. Junction 97, obviously. That Mt. Hood dominating.
- Gold Lake proper, from our campsite I believe.
- Horace sitting at “our” picnic table. I believe that’s a Toro hat he’s wearing.
- Our campsite. You can see the guy lines that held up our lean to.
- Me leaning against our red Comet. Same campsite. I think we must have rented the raft. I don’t recall ever seeing one that was ours, before or after this camping trip.
