Robert Williams Buchanan (1841 – 1901) was a Scottish poet, novelist and dramatist.

The Brothers Dalziel were a highly productive firm of Victorian engravers founded in 1839 by George Dalziel (1815 – 1902) and his brother Edward Dalziel (1817 – 1905). George Dalziel trained under Charles Gray in London from around 1835. They were later joined by John Dalziel and Thomas Dalziel (1823 – 1906).
The Dalziel brothers worked with many important Victorian artists, producing illustrations for the burgeoning magazine and book market of the period.

Joseph Wolf (1820 – 1899) was a German artist who specialized in natural history illustration. He moved to the British Museum in 1848 and became the preferred illustrator for explorers and naturalists including David Livingstone, Alfred Russel Wallace and Henry Walter Bates. Wolf depicted animals accurately in lifelike postures and is considered one of the great pioneers of wildlife art.

Thomas Bolton Dalziel (1823 – 1906) was an engraver known chiefly for his illustrations of the work of Charles Dickens.

Arthur Boyd Houghton (1836 – 1875), who usually signed his name A. B. Houghton, was a British painter (oil and watercolours) and illustrator. Houghton was born in Kotagiri, Madras, India. His work was varied and was highly regarded during the mid-19th century.

George John Pinwell RWS (1842 – 1875), was a British watercolour painter.

Johann Baptist Zwecker (1814 – 1876) was a German artist who illustrated books and magazines in the nineteenth century.

Edward Dalziel, born in 1817 in Wooler, was the fifth of twelve sons of a Northumbrian artist. In 1839, he joined his brother George in London to build the renowned engraving firm that worked on so many important nineteenth-century British book illustrations. The Dalziel brothers -- the name is pronounced "dal-iel" -- were the leading Victorian wood-engravers, and they created the actual blocks from which illustrations were printed, using both their own original drawings or, more often, work by other artists, including, Arthur Boyd Houghton, John Gilbert, William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
