The purpose of this repository is to house scans of a rare CD-R that was released in a very limited number. I created this page to hopefully allow more people to find out about this otherwise unknown recording. Unfortunately, the disc itself is in a completely unplayable state, and there is no way to bring it back as it is way too far gone. I would have included a FLAC rip here of the disc along with the scans, but unfortunately I cannot do so since the disc wasn't handled well in the past before I bought it.
These scans are of a CD-R copy of Stan Ridgway's score of the film "Race" (more commonly known as "Melting Pot"). This film isn't very well documented, and as of now I haven't been able to find any evidence of physical or digital releases of the film. As it is an Indie film, I guess I'm not surprised that the circumstances surrounding its release and the limited release of the score are mostly unknown. This CD-R was created for one of the people in the music department for the film, specifically Gerry Gershman, (seen here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127020/fullcredits and https://imgur.com/gallery/JbiRpqo) who is classified by IMDB as being the Music Supervisor. As you can see in the scans, all of the handwritten portions are in Stan's handwriting, and the back of the insert is signed by Stan to Gerry with a date of 1998-01-20. From what I have gathered, this score is under the Latin Rock genre, but I can't confirm it due to the aforementioned circumstances. I also believe that this copy is one of only a few in existence, as these were made only for people who worked on the film, especially those in the music department.
I hope that by publicizing these scans, more people will become aware of the film and its score. I hope that one day we can see a re-release of Stan's score for everyone to enjoy. I was really looking forward to archiving the score not just for myself but also for anyone looking at this page, but unfortunately as you are already aware I was not able to recover the disc.
Nonetheless, I hope that any viewers of this page will have interest in the score and the film, and I hope that you, the viewers, will enjoy this look into an otherwise unseen and undocumented film score.
Also included in this set is a business card of Stan's that wasn't advertised in the listing I bought but was thrown in the case as an unexpected bonus. I like to think of it as a piece of history that most didn't get to see, so it is here along with the scans of the inserts and disc.
