In modern day Saudi Arabia - he was born and
raised in the city of Makkah (مكة) and moved to Madinah
Munawwarah (المدينة المنورة), where he is buried again.
Makkah (also known as Mecca) was historic and
revered as a holy city in Arabia, even before the advent of Islam, due to the
existence of the Ka’bah (كعبة). To this day, Muslims visit
it to perform the sacred pilgrimage (Hajj and 'Umrah).
