This photo was taken in May 1961.Sherry Lott wrote the following: "That was taken in the high school library, I believe that is Deon Brown. I won the school oratory contest put on by the American Legion in 1961, my Senior year. I went on the win the district and second in the zone contest. I then went to state, there were five of us. I think it was held at Provo High School. I wore the same dress to every contest because dad was superstitious and thought it brought me luck. The girl with me is Sondra Merrell, she took second in the high school contest. My speech had to be no longer than 12 minutes, we then were given a subject to talk on that was between 4-6 minutes. My talk started out ' Do you realize that you and I as Americans live in the greatest age the world has ever known?"
