Currently, the API does not allow changing of the text color.
I suggest you switch over to a new tab page offered by many developers in the webstore or create your own startpage.
It seems Google has abandoned theme development in Chrome.

Colors should no longer clash! 4k support is supported although the image will be stretched.
I suggest using an alternative new tab page found in the chrome webstore.
