This six-cent commemorative postage stamp features a portrait of the Chief Joseph (1840-1904) of the Nez Percé tribe. He became famous for his war tactics used against the U.S. Army and for the courage, honor, and the consideration he showed his enemies. His famous words that would end the Nez Perce War were "...I will fight no more forever." This stamp was issued in 1968 to commemorate the "American Indian" with 50 stamps to a sheet.
