Eli and Robin at the beach before it became a park, August, 1972.When these was taken, the town's old school building still stood at the head of the road leading to the beach. The school no longer operated. The town's school was incorporated in the county seat's school. Now it\u2019s Vista Park. I was probably working for Olsen Log Rafting, so I was commuting 2 hours, twice a week, there and back, to Portland. Clearly a beautiful ass day!
The school building was a two story structure that at one time I believe encompassed all 12 grades. Once the school building was gone and the property had officially become a county park, there was an educational/volunteer project to have a solar shower. I either volunteered or was hired (likely a combination of the two) to construct the building. All of the shower "works" (e.g., relief valves, thermometers, piping, etc) were constructed as a volunteer project by the community. People were, for example, taught to sweat copper, etc. The "works" were mounted to a sheet (or maybe two) and housed behind a piece of plexiglass and visible to the public. I believe the facility had two shower stalls. Tim helped me on that job. That was at least a couple of years after this photo was taken.
