John B. Post was a Colorado beatnik that focused on photographing women during the sixties and seventies.

The variety of indoor and outdoor environments, staged and natural accentuate the female figure as classic icons of the era. Playful and sensual, these images evoke strength as well as a vulnerability of the uncovered human body. For example, a 1969 photograph awarded first place by the Colorado Press Association is of a woman sitting on a bed with sheer drapes angularly opened to reveal her nude body draped with a lacy shawl. Her upright and dignified posture is further emphasized by Post's subtle use of light and shadow, thus highlighting the dynamic tension of the force and beauty of the physical form.

Post had a studio in Leadville and Denver, Colorado as well as a professional photography studio in Brooklyn, New York. John B. Post died in 1999 in Denver, Colorado. He photographed hundreds of women printing the black and white photographs himself. The bulk of these photographs were never publicly shown.

Currently the collection of John Post photography is in the hands of Stevyn IronFeather in Hokkaido Japan.
