Late Dr Jayakant Mishra is reputedscholar and dedicated activist for the cause of Mithila and Maithili who had played
a key role in introducing Maithili in the Sahitya Akademi. Shri Mishra was born
in a family of reputed Sanskrit scholars in November 1922. He is the son of
Mahamahopadhyaya Umesh Mishra and grandson of Pandit Jayadev Mishra. He was brought-up
at Allahabad where his father was a Sanskrit teacher in the university. He had
a brilliant career in the Department of English Studies and Modern European
Languages. His scholastic book Maithili Sahityak Itihas published by Sahitya
Akademi and others are taken as testament of Maithili language and literature. The picture was taken at Kabilpur village in Darbhanga district of Mithila
