Home Use Content Planning Gantt Chart Excel Template

This Home Use Content Planning Gantt Chart Excel template is specifically designed for individuals, families, or hobbyists who manage personal content creation projects — such as blogging, YouTube video series, podcast episodes, Instagram reels, or home-based digital marketing. Unlike enterprise-grade tools that overwhelm users with complexity, this template simplifies visual project planning using a clean Gantt chart layout within Excel. It empowers you to plan your content calendar over weeks or months without needing specialized software.

Sheet Names

  • Content Plan — The main working sheet where all tasks, deadlines, and progress are entered.
  • Gantt Chart — Automatically generated visual timeline derived from the Content Plan sheet using conditional formatting and bar charts.
  • Settings & Dates — Centralizes all date parameters (start/end dates of the plan) to ensure dynamic updates across the template.
  • Status Dashboard — A summary view with key metrics and progress indicators for quick insights.

Table Structures & Columns (Content Plan Sheet)

The Content Plan sheet contains a structured table with the following columns: < td>Preset options: Blog, YouTube, Podcast, Instagram, TikTok, Other.< td>The planned completion date. Must be ≥ Start Date.< td>Select: Not Started, In Progress, On Hold, Completed.< td>Low / Medium / High — affects color-coding in Gantt chart.< td>Optional field for reminders, tools needed, or links.

PriorityDropdown (Text)
NotesText

Formulas Required

  • In column “Duration (Days)” (auto-calculated): =IF(AND([@End Date]<>””, [@Start Date]<>””), ([@End Date]-[@Start Date])+1, "")
  • In the “Gantt Chart” sheet, dynamic date headers are pulled using: =Settings!$B$2 + COLUMN()-3 to auto-generate daily columns based on a start date.
  • Status-based progress bar length (in Gantt Chart): Uses conditional formatting with formulas like:
    • =AND($B2=DATE(2024,7,1), [@Status]="In Progress") → highlights cell if task is active on that date.
  • Status Dashboard uses:
    • =COUNTIF([Status], "Completed")
    • =COUNTIF([Status], "Not Started")
    • =ROUND(COUNTIF([Status],"Completed")/COUNTA([Status]),2)*100 for completion %.

Conditional Formatting

  • Gantt Chart bars: Each date cell is conditionally formatted to turn blue if the task is active on that day (using formula: =AND([@Start Date]<=Gantt!$E$1, [@End Date]>=Gantt!$E$1)).
  • Priority colors: High Priority rows in Content Plan turn red; Medium → yellow; Low → light green.
  • Status indicators: Completed tasks get a strikethrough font and gray background. On Hold tasks are italicized with orange border.

Instructions for the User

How to use this template:
1. Open the “Settings & Dates” sheet and set your planning period (Start Date and End Date). The entire Gantt chart auto-adjusts.
2. Go to “Content Plan” and add each content item using the dropdown menus for Category, Status, and Priority.
3. Enter start/end dates — ensure end date is after start date; if not, an error message will appear via data validation.
4. View your progress in real-time on the “Gantt Chart” sheet — colored bars show task durations visually.
5. Check the “Status Dashboard” for weekly completion stats and upcoming deadlines (highlighted in red if due within 3 days).
6. Update Status regularly to keep the Gantt chart accurate. This template updates automatically — no manual drawing required!
Tip: Print the Gantt Chart sheet monthly as a physical planner or pin it to your wall for visual motivation.
