Content Planning Home Template – Weekly Version

This Content Planning Home Template – Weekly Version is a comprehensive Excel tool designed for content creators, marketing teams, and content managers who need to strategically plan, track, and optimize their weekly publishing schedules from a centralized home base. As a Home Template, it serves as the central hub for all weekly editorial activities — connecting ideation, scheduling, performance tracking, and team collaboration in one organized view. The Weekly structure ensures that users can operate on a tight cycle of seven-day planning windows, allowing agile adjustments while maintaining long-term content calendars.

Sheet Structure

The template is composed of five main sheets:

Formulas Required

  • Status color logic: Uses conditional formatting with formulas like: =[@Status]="Published" → green fill.
  • Last Updated column uses: =IF(NOW()<>L2, NOW(), L2) triggered on cell change via VBA (optional) or manual update prompt.
  • In Dashboards sheet: =SUMIFS(WeeklyPlanner[Estimated Time], WeeklyPlanner[Status], "Published") to total weekly workload.

Conditional Formatting

  • Status “Published” → Green background
  • Status “Scheduled” → Blue background
  • Status “Drafted” → Yellow background
  • Prioritized? = Yes → Red bold text + icon (using Symbol font)
  • Estimated Time > 5 hrs → Orange highlight to flag heavy tasks
  • Missing Owner → Red border to prompt assignment

User Instructions

How to Use This Template:

  1. Open the template every Monday morning.
  2. In “Weekly Planner”, assign content for the week using dropdowns and checklists.
  3. Add new ideas in “Content Ideas Bank” — they’ll auto-filter into your upcoming weeks via a pivot table connection.
  4. Update status daily as work progresses. Use the “Last Updated” timestamp to track progress.
  5. At week’s end, copy performance metrics from your analytics platforms into the “Performance Tracker.”
  6. Review “Dashboards & Insights” for visual summaries — use these in team syncs.
  7. Archive completed weeks by renaming the file: “ContentPlan_2024_W18.xlsx” for easy retrieval.

Note: Never delete rows. Use filtering and sorting instead. Always save as .xlsx (not .xls) to preserve formulas.
