Daily Content Planning Income Statement Excel Template

This Daily Content Planning Income Statement Excel template is a unique hybrid tool designed for digital content creators, marketing teams, and media agencies who need to track both the financial performance and operational efficiency of their daily content output. While traditional income statements track revenue and expenses over time, this version adapts the concept to content planning by treating each day’s content production as a revenue-generating asset with associated costs. The result is a powerful daily snapshot of which pieces of content are driving value — financially and strategically — enabling data-driven decisions in real-time.

Sheet Names

  • Daily Content Log — Core data entry sheet tracking every content piece published daily.
  • Income Statement Summary — Auto-calculated summary dashboard aggregating daily revenue, costs, and net income per content category.
  • Content Categories — Reference table defining types of content (e.g., blog posts, videos, social reels) and their standard cost/revenue benchmarks.
  • Daily Analytics Dashboard — Interactive charting interface with dynamic visuals for KPIs.
  • Cost Tracker — Detailed log of indirect costs (e.g., freelancers, software subscriptions, ad spend).

  • In Income Statement Summary, daily total revenue: =SUMIF(DailyContentLog!A:A, TODAY(), DailyContentLog!E:E)
  • Daily total cost: =SUMIF(DailyContentLog!A:A, TODAY(), DailyContentLog!F:F)
  • Daily net income: =SUMIF(DailyContentLog!A:A, TODAY(), DailyContentLog!G:G)
  • ROI per category (in Summary sheet): =(Revenue - Cost)/Cost * 100
  • Rolling 7-day average revenue: =AVERAGE(OFFSET(E2,-6,0,7,1))
  • To auto-populate category benchmarks: Use VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP from “Content Categories” sheet.

Conditional Formatting

  • Apply red to any row where Net Income < $0 (unprofitable content).
  • Highlight rows with Hrs Spent > 1.5x Avg. Time from Content Categories (yellow background) for efficiency alerts.
  • Green highlight if ROI exceeds 200% on any content item.
  • Date column: Use color scale to show recent entries (recent = darker green).

Instructions for the User

How to Use This Template:
1. Enter each content piece published daily into the Daily Content Log. Be precise with dates and platform.
2. Select Content Type from dropdown list — this auto-fills benchmarks from the reference sheet.
3. Input actual revenue (from affiliate links, ad shares, sponsorships, etc.) and direct costs (freelancer fees, stock assets).
4. Log hours spent using decimal format: e.g., “1.5” for one hour and thirty minutes.
5. The Income Statement Summary updates automatically every day — review daily before team syncs.
6. Use the Dashboard sheet to spot trends: Which content types yield highest ROI? Which platforms are most cost-effective?
7. Update the “Cost Tracker” sheet weekly with fixed costs (e.g., Canva Pro, Adobe CC). These are not included in daily direct costs but appear in total expense summaries.
Tip: If a content item doesn’t generate immediate revenue (e.g., evergreen blog), estimate its lifetime value based on historical traffic and conversion data.
