Compact Content Planning Payroll Excel Template

This Compact Content Planning Payroll Excel Template is a uniquely designed, streamlined spreadsheet tool that merges the operational needs of content creation teams with payroll tracking — enabling content managers and HR professionals to align team compensation directly with editorial output. Unlike traditional payroll templates focused solely on hours or salary, this template introduces performance-based compensation tied to content deliverables: articles published, video views, social media engagement metrics, and campaign completions. The “Compact” design ensures minimal screen real estate usage while maximizing functionality — ideal for mobile users and teams working in fast-paced digital environments.

The Employee Roster contains static fields: Employee ID (Primary Key), Full Name, Role (Writer, Editor, Videographer), Hourly Rate ($), Contract Type (Full-time/Contractor/Freelancer), and Pay Frequency.

Essential Formulas

  • =VLOOKUP(A2,'Employee Roster'!A:D,4,FALSE) — Pulls hourly rate into Column L (Base Pay).
  • =IF(AND(H2>1000, J2>=4), "Yes", "No") — Determines bonus eligibility.
  • =IF(K2="Yes", IF(H2<=5000, L2*0.1, IF(H2<=15000, L2*0.15, L2*0.2)), 0) — Tiered bonus logic based on views.
  • =SUMIF(Content Log!A:A,'Payroll Summary'!$B3, Content Log!N:N) — Sum of total pay per employee for Payroll Summary.

Conditional Formatting Rules

  • Red fill (Low Quality): Apply if Quality Score = 1 or 2.
  • Yellow fill (High Effort, Low Results): If Estimated Hours > 5 and Engagement Rate < 1%.
  • Green fill (Top Performer): If Total Pay is in top 20% of team.
  • Bold text: On any row where Bonus Eligible = "Yes".

User Instructions

  1. First, populate the Employee Roster with all active content contributors and their rates.
  2. Each week, update the Content Log with new assets — use dropdowns to ensure consistency.
  3. The system automatically calculates Base Pay, Bonus Eligibility, and Total Pay. Do not edit formulas in Columns K–N.
  4. If an asset is deleted or revised, update its row (do not delete). Use column O for "Status" (e.g., Revised, Archived).
  5. Review the Payroll Summary tab monthly. Use the "Generate Report" button (macro-enabled) to export a PDF summary.
  6. Note: This template assumes content-driven compensation. Base pay should reflect standard hours; bonuses incentivize performance.
