Compact Content Planning & Stock Control Excel Template
This Compact Content Planning & Stock Control Excel template is a streamlined, highly efficient tool designed for digital marketers, content teams, and small-to-medium businesses that need to synchronize their content publishing schedule with real-time inventory of reusable assets (e.g., blog posts, videos, infographics, templates). Unlike generic calendars or bulky project trackers, this template merges the strategic oversight of Content Planning with the operational precision of Stock Control, all within a minimalist, space-optimized layout — hence the designation as Compact. It enables users to track not only what content is planned and when it’s due, but also how many copies or versions of each asset remain available for reuse, preventing overproduction and underutilization.
Sheet Names
The template contains three primary sheets:
- Content Pipeline – Master planning table with content ideas, status, and stock levels.

- Pending Content: Rows with Status = “Idea” or “Planned” and Target Date > today’s date highlight in light yellow.
- Overdue Content: Rows where Status ≠ “Published” and Target Date is past turn red.
- New Stock Alert: Any row in the Stock Ledger with Action = “Restocked” highlights green with a bold font.
User Instructions
How to Use This Template:
- Start by populating the Content Pipeline sheet with your planned content items, assigning realistic stock levels (e.g., 10 versions of a template).
- Each time you create a new asset, record it in the Stock Ledger with “Created” and positive quantity. Each time you use it (e.g., publish), log “Used” with -1.
- The dashboard will auto-update to show stock trends and overdue items.
- When any item’s stock falls below its minimum threshold, the row turns red — trigger a new production task immediately.
- Use the dropdowns for consistency. Avoid manual entry in calculated columns (E, G).
