Quarterly Meal Planner Template for Data Collection

This comprehensive Excel template is designed specifically for individuals, nutritionists, dietitians, and households aiming to streamline their meal planning process, while systematically collecting and analyzing nutritional data over a quarterly period (3 months). The template combines the practicality of a meal planner with the analytical power of data collection tools, enabling users to track eating habits, manage dietary goals, monitor expenses, and assess long-term nutrition patterns efficiently.

Sheet Names

  • 1. Monthly Overview (Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4): A consolidated view of each month in the quarter with daily meal summaries.

  • 3. Weekly Summary Report: Aggregates data from daily entries into weekly trends, nutritional totals, and cost analysis.
  • 4. Monthly Summary Dashboard: Visualizes key performance indicators (KPIs) such as calories consumed, protein intake, and grocery costs per month.

Formulas Required

The template includes several dynamic formulas to automate data processing and reduce manual errors:

  • Calorie Calculation: =VLOOKUP(Recipe_Name, Recipe_DB!A:D, 3, FALSE) * Serving_Size / 100 – Converts per-100g calories to actual serving.
  • Total Daily Calories: =SUMIF(Meal_Type_Column, "Breakfast", Calories_Column) + SUMIF(...) – Aggregates total daily intake.
  • Daily Cost: =SUMIF(Cost_per_Meal_Column, ">", 0) – Totals cost for all meals in a day.
  • Average Weekly Protein: =AVERAGEIFS(Protein_Column, Date_Column, ">="&StartDate, Date_Column,"<="&EndDate) – Calculates average protein intake per week.
  • Goal Progress: =IF(Current_Weekly_Calories <= Target_Calories, "On Track", "Over")

Conditional Formatting Rules

  • Daily Calorie Over/Under: Highlight cells in red if daily calories exceed target, green if below.
  • High-Cost Meals: Shade background yellow for meals costing over $8.
  • Frequent Snacking (more than 3 per day): Flag rows with "Snack" entries exceeding threshold using a formula-based rule.
  • Dietary Tag Color Coding: Apply color to cells based on tags: green for vegetarian, blue for gluten-free, etc.
