SHEET NAMES AND STRUCTURE

The template consists of three primary sheets:

1. Shopping List: The main data input sheet where users record all items to purchase.
2. Summary Dashboard: A dynamic overview that aggregates and visualizes the collected data.
3. Data Log & History: A hidden log for archiving past shopping sessions, enabling historical analysis and trend tracking.

TABLE STRUCTURE AND COLUMNS (Shopping List Sheet)

The Shopping List sheet contains a structured table with the following columns and data types:

FORMULAS REQUIRED

To maintain data integrity and automate calculations, the following formulas are implemented:

• Total Cost (Column F): =IF(D2<>"", C2*D2, 0) – Calculates cost only if quantity is provided.
• Date Added (Column A): =TODAY() – Automatically inserts the current date when a new row is added.
• Purchased Count (Summary Dashboard): In the Summary sheet, use: =COUNTIF(ShoppingList!F:F, "Yes")
• Total Expenditure (Summary Dashboard): Use: =SUMIFS(ShoppingList!E:E, ShoppingList!F:F, "Yes") to sum only purchased items.
• Category Totals: Use =SUMIF(ShoppingList!B:B, "Fruits", ShoppingList!E:E) to total spending by category.

CONDITIONAL FORMATTING RULES

To enhance visual clarity and usability, the template applies conditional formatting:

• Purchased Items: Text in green and strikethrough if "Purchased?" is marked as "Yes".
• High-Cost Items: Highlight any item with a Total Cost exceeding $10.00 in light red.
• Due Soon (if applicable): If a future date is added, items older than 7 days are highlighted in yellow.
• Empty Rows: Hide blank rows using table formatting and filter options to keep the view clean.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USER

1. Open the template in Microsoft Excel (recommended version 2016 or later).
2. Navigate to the Shopping List sheet.
3. Type item names, select categories from the dropdown, enter quantities and prices.
4. Use "Yes" or "No" in the "Purchased?" column to track completion status.
5. The Total Cost will auto-calculate. If an item is purchased, it’s included in summary totals.
6. When finished shopping, you may archive the list by copying data to Data Log & History and clearing the main table (keep history for long-term data collection).
7. Explore insights in the Summary Dashboard, which updates automatically based on your entries.
8. To reset for a new shopping trip, clear all rows except header row and begin again.
