Columns and Data Types

All columns are designed with clear data types to ensure consistency and prevent errors:

  • Date: Date/Time format (auto-formatted).
  • Income & Expenses: Currency (USD, with 2 decimal places).
  • Progress (%) or Units: Numeric (for percentages) or integer for weight, calories, etc.
  • Status Flags: Text-based status indicators ("✔", "✘", "On Track", "Delayed").
  • Goal Type: Categorical data using dropdowns (e.g., Financial, Health, Career).
  • Target Date: Date type with validation for future dates only.

Formulas Required

The template leverages dynamic formulas to ensure real-time calculations and updates:

  • =SUM(B2:B7): Total weekly income (summing daily income).
  • =SUM(C2:C7): Total fixed expenses.
  • =SUM(D2:D7): Total variable expenses.
  • =E2 - C2 - D2: Daily remaining budget (income minus fixed and variable).
  • =IF(E3>0, "On Track", IF(E3<0, "Over Budget", "In Progress")): Status indicator for daily budget.
  • =C2/C7*100: Calculates goal allocation progress (%) in the Goals Overview sheet.
  • =IF(A2="", "", TEXT(Now(), "dd/mm/yyyy")): Auto-populates date if blank (for daily entries).

Conditional Formatting

To enhance visual clarity and alert users to potential issues:

  • Red fill for expenses > income: When daily variable or fixed expenses exceed income, the row turns red.
  • Green highlight for progress > 80%: In Goals Overview, cells with progress above 80% are shaded green.
  • Yellow for 50–79%: Indicates partial progress to prompt action.
  • Bold text for overdue goals: Status "✘" on any goal past its target date is automatically bolded.
  • Daily budget tracker color gradient: Remaining budget shows green (positive), yellow (low), red (negative).

  • Budget Example: "Monday – Income: $1,200; Fixed: $600; Variable: $350; Remaining Budget: $100".
  • Progress Tracker: "October 5 – Goal G101 (Emergency Fund): Progress = $325 / Target = $500 → On Track".

Recommended Charts or Dashboards

To visualize your data effectively, the following charts are recommended:

  • Weekly Budget Pie Chart: Shows income vs. expenses distribution.
  • Progress Bar Chart (Goals Overview): Displays goal completion across multiple goals in a single horizontal bar graph.
  • Line Graph (Progress Tracker): Plots daily progress over time to show trends.
  • Dashboards: Combine key metrics into one view—weekly budget summary, top 5 goals, and financial health score (calculated as: (Remaining Budget / Target Income) × 100).
