Whether you're managing chores, renovation projects, family schedules, or seasonal maintenance tasks, this template provides an intuitive structure to track progress effectively.
Sheet Names
The workbook consists of three primary sheets designed for clarity and functionality:
- Daily Task Log: The core sheet where daily project entries are recorded, updated, and tracked.
- Project Overview Dashboard: A summary sheet offering visual insights into ongoing projects, completion rates, and workload distribution.
- Task Categories & Templates: A reference sheet containing predefined task categories and reusable templates to speed up data entry.
Table Structures and Columns (Daily Task Log)
The Daily Task Log is structured as a dynamic table with the following columns:
| Column Name | Data Type / Format | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Date (Daily) | Date (mm/dd/yyyy) | Auto-filled with the current date. Set up using a formula to prompt entry each day. |
| Project Name | Text | Name of the home-related project (e.g., "Kitchen Remodel," "Garden Cleanup"). |
| Task Description | Text (Short) | A brief description of the specific task to be completed on that day. |
| Category | Dropdown List (from "Task Categories & Templates" sheet) | Categorizes tasks (e.g., Cleaning, Maintenance, Renovation, Organization). |
| Priority Level | Dropdown: High / Medium / Low | Indicates urgency to help with daily prioritization. |
| Status | Dropdown: Not Started / In Progress / Completed / Deferred | Tracks progress for each task. |
| Time Estimated (min) | Numerical (Minutes) | Estimate of time required to complete the task. |
| Actual Time Spent (min) | Numerical | To be filled in after completing the task for time-tracking analytics. |
| Notes | Text (Free-form) | Optional field for personal comments, reminders, or observations. |
Formulas Required
The following formulas enhance automation and insight:
- Date Auto-Entry (Cell A2):
=TODAY()
This ensures the date is automatically populated each time the workbook is opened. Users can copy this formula down for future dates. - Days Elapsed Since Project Start:
Assuming a "Start Date" column (independent of daily log), use:
=TODAY() - [Start_Date_Cell] - Completion Rate for Each Project:
Use=COUNTIF(Status_Column, "Completed") / COUNTA(Status_Column)in the Dashboard to calculate percentage completion. - Time Spent Summary (Dashboard):
=SUMIFS('Daily Task Log'!H:H, 'Daily Task Log'!C:C, "Cleaning")– aggregates time spent by category.
Conditional Formatting Rules
To visually distinguish task statuses and priorities:
- Status Highlighting:
- "Completed": Green background with white text
- "In Progress": Yellow background
- "Not Started": Light gray background
- "Deferred": Red text - Priority Level Coloring:
Use color scales to highlight High (Red), Medium (Orange), Low (Green). - Overdue Tasks:
If a task has "Not Started" status and the current date exceeds its expected completion date, apply red background.
