Marketing Plan Chore Chart – Report Version Excel Template

This specialized Excel template, titled “Marketing Plan Chore Chart – Report Version”, uniquely fuses the structured accountability of a chore chart with the strategic planning requirements of a comprehensive marketing campaign. Unlike traditional marketing plans that focus solely on goals and budgets, this template introduces a daily/weekly task tracking system—akin to household chores—to ensure consistent execution, team accountability, and measurable progress. Designed for marketing teams in small-to-medium businesses or departments within larger organizations, this Report Version transforms abstract campaign objectives into tangible, trackable tasks with automated reporting features.

Sheet Names

The template contains four integrated sheets:

  • Marketing Tasks (Chore Chart): The core task-tracking worksheet.
  • KPI Dashboard: Visual summary of performance metrics and completion rates.
  • Report Summary: Auto-generated narrative and data snapshot for executives or stakeholders.
  • Settings & Instructions: Contains user guidance, color codes, and formula references.

Formulas Required

  • Total Tasks Completed: =COUNTIF(D:D,"Completed") — Counts completed tasks.
  • Completion Rate %: =Total Tasks Completed / COUNTA(A:A) — Dynamic percentage of task completion.
  • Total Hours Logged: =SUM(G:G) — Sums actual hours spent on all tasks.
  • Average Hours per Task: =AVERAGE(G:G)
  • Overdue Tasks: =COUNTIFS(D:D,"<"&TODAY(),E:E,"<>"&"Completed") — Flags overdue items.
  • Campaign Phase Distribution: =COUNTIF(J:J,"Awareness"), etc. — Used in pie charts on the Dashboard.

Conditional Formatting Rules

  • Red Fill: Tasks overdue (Due Date < TODAY() AND Status ≠ “Completed”)
  • Yellow Fill: Tasks due within 48 hours (Due Date <= TODAY()+2 AND Status ≠ “Completed”)
  • Green Fill: Completed tasks
  • Bold Text + Orange Border: High-priority tasks (Prioritized? = “Yes”)
  • Color Scale on Actual Hours: Light to dark blue based on time spent — helps spot inefficiencies.

User Instructions

How to Use This Template:

  1. Download and enable macros if prompted (formulas rely on dynamic updates).
  2. In the “Settings & Instructions” sheet, review dropdown lists for Department, Status, and Campaign Phase. Customize them as needed.
  3. Add your marketing tasks under “Marketing Tasks.” Start with weekly objectives aligned to your campaign goals.
  4. Assign owners and due dates — treat each task like a household chore: if it’s not done, the house (campaign) suffers!
  5. Update status daily or every 48 hours. Use dropdowns only to maintain data integrity.
  6. The KPI Dashboard auto-updates. Review weekly for trends in completion rate and time allocation.
  7. Export the “Report Summary” sheet monthly for stakeholder presentations — it automatically generates a narrative like: “This month, 85% of tasks were completed. The highest time investment was in email automation (120 hours), resulting in 347 new leads.”

DO NOT delete rows or alter column headers. This breaks formulas and formatting.

Recommended Charts and Dashboards

The KPI Dashboard sheet includes:

  • A completed tasks bar chart, comparing weekly completion rates.
  • A polar area chart (radar) showing task distribution across campaign phases.
  • A Gantt-style timeline visualizing task deadlines and progress bars (using stacked bar charts).
  • An overdue tasks counter widget with color alerting.
  • A pie chart for time allocation by department — revealing bottlenecks or overloads.

This template is not just a checklist—it’s a living, breathing accountability engine. By framing marketing activities as chores, it encourages daily engagement and eliminates the “out of sight, out of mind” problem common in digital campaigns. The Report Version ensures leadership receives polished summaries without manual formatting. Use this template to turn vague strategy into disciplined execution.
