Daily Gantt Chart Marketing Plan Template for Excel
This comprehensive Excel template is designed specifically for marketing teams seeking precise, day-by-day tracking of campaign activities through a dynamic Daily Gantt Chart. Unlike traditional weekly or monthly Gantt charts, this template enables granular oversight of every task assigned to marketers, freelancers, designers, content creators, and media buyers — ensuring zero gaps in execution and maximum accountability. The “Marketing Plan” is structured with daily granularity so that fast-paced digital marketing campaigns — such as product launches, social media blitzes, email drip sequences, or paid ad rollouts — can be monitored in real time. This template transforms static planning into a living operational dashboard.
Sheet Names and Structure
The template consists of three main sheets:
- Marketing Plan: The core Gantt chart view, displaying tasks by day.
- Task Registry: A master list of all marketing activities with metadata.
- Dashboard: A visual summary of progress, delays, and resource allocation.
Table Structures & Columns (Task Registry)
The Task Registry sheet contains the following structured columns:
| Column | Data Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| ID | Number | Unique task identifier (auto-incremented) |
| Task Name | Text | Name of the marketing activity (e.g., “Launch LinkedIn Ad Campaign”) td> |
| Department | Text (Dropdown) | Tiered list: Content, Design, Paid Ads, SEO, Email, Analytics td> |
| Owner | Text | Name of responsible team member or agency td> |
| Start Date | Date | <Daily start date (e.g., 2024-06-15) td> |
| End Date | Date | Daily end date (must be >= Start Date) td> |
| Status | Text (Dropdown: Not Started, In Progress, Completed, Delayed) td> | |
| Priority | Text (Dropdown: High, Medium, Low) td> | |
| Description | Text | Detailed instructions or deliverables required td> |
Marketing Plan Sheet — Daily Gantt Chart Implementation
The Marketing Plan sheet presents a horizontal timeline spanning 90 days (customizable). Each row corresponds to a task from the Task Registry. The column headers are daily dates starting from the earliest task start date. For each cell in the timeline, conditional formatting fills cells with color when:
- Today’s date falls between Start Date and End Date → Blue (In Progress)
- Date equals End Date → Green (Completed)
- Date is after End Date and Status ≠ Completed → Red (Delayed)
- No task active → No fill
The key formula used in cell B3 (first date cell) to determine if a task is active on that day:
=AND($D3<=B$1, B$1<=$E3)
This formula, copied across the entire timeline grid, returns TRUE when the column header (date) is within the task’s date range. Conditional formatting then applies color based on this logic.
Conditional Formatting Rules
- In Progress (Blue): =AND($D3<=B$1,B$1<=$E3,$G3="In Progress")
- Completed (Green): =AND(B$1=$E3,$G3="Completed")
- Delayed (Red): =AND(B$1>$E3,$G3<>"Completed",$G3<>"Not Started")
- Priority Highlighting: High priority tasks have bold borders; Medium have light borders.
User Instructions
1. Begin by populating the Task Registry sheet with all planned marketing activities, ensuring accurate start/end dates.
2. Use dropdowns for Department and Status to maintain consistency.
3. Once entries are complete, the Marketing Plan sheet auto-updates — no manual Gantt drawing needed!
4. Update the “Status” column daily or every other day to reflect actual progress — this instantly changes Gantt colors.
5. Use the Dashboard to monitor % Complete, On-Time Tasks, and Top Delayed Activities.
6. To extend the timeline beyond 90 days, copy and paste date columns and update formulas accordingly.
