Formulas Required

  • In the Performance Dashboard, use =SUMIFS() to auto-calculate total budget spent per channel based on data in Activity Planner.
  • In Goal Sheet, use a formula like: =IF([@Status]="Completed", 100%, IF([@Status]="In Progress", 50%, 0%)) to calculate % completion dynamically.
  • Use =COUNTIFS() on the Activity Planner to count total activities completed vs. planned, displayed in the Dashboard.
  • In Dashboard, use a formula like: =IFERROR([@Actual]/[@Target], 0) to calculate goal attainment rate as a percentage.

Conditional Formatting

  • Status Column in Activity Planner: Green for “Completed,” orange for “In Progress,” red for “Delayed.”
  • Budget Spent vs. Allocation: Cells in the Budget Spent column turn yellow if over 80% of allocated budget is used, and red if exceeded.
  • Due Date Column: Highlight cells in red if deadline is past and status ≠ “Completed.”

Instructions for the User

Step 1: Open the template and go to “Marketing Goals & Budget.” Define 3–5 SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound). Assign budget and channel.

Step 2: Switch to “Activity Planner.” Add tasks that support each goal. Use the dropdown menus for consistency. Fill in owners and dates.

Step 3: As you complete activities, update the Status column and input actual budget spent.

Step 4: Check the “Performance Dashboard” weekly to see your progress visualized. Use it for team check-ins or stakeholder reports.

Note: This template is designed for simplicity—do not add extra columns or sheets unless necessary. Overcomplicating defeats the purpose of a Simple Planner Template.

Recommended Charts and Dashboards

The “Performance Dashboard” includes two essential charts:

  • Bar Chart: Compares Budget Allocation vs. Actual Spending by Channel (auto-updates from Activity Planner).
  • Gauge Chart (or simple progress bar): Shows overall goal attainment rate (%) based on completed goals.

No complex Power BI or external tools are needed. Excel’s built-in charting capabilities are sufficient for this Simple Marketing Plan Planner Template. Charts are static but dynamic in data—just refresh after editing.

Conclusion

The Simple Marketing Plan Planner Template is not a feature-rich enterprise tool—it’s a practical, no-fluff system that empowers users to think strategically without getting lost in spreadsheets. With minimal setup and maximum clarity, it turns marketing from an abstract concept into an actionable plan. Whether you're launching your first campaign or managing seasonal promotions, this template ensures focus remains on goals, not formatting.
