Travel Planning - Home Template - Daily Excel Sheet
The Travel Planning - Home Template - Daily is a comprehensive, user-friendly Excel workbook designed for individuals and families who wish to meticulously plan and track their daily activities during trips — whether for leisure, business, or extended stays. Unlike generic travel planners, this template is structured as a “Home Template,” meaning it mimics the familiarity of your personal home organization system: clean layouts, intuitive navigation, recurring daily routines adapted for travel environments. The “Daily” version focuses on granular day-by-day tracking to ensure no detail is overlooked — from breakfast times to flight delays — transforming chaotic journeys into smoothly orchestrated experiences.
Sheet Names
The workbook consists of six structured sheets:
- Daily Planner – Core daily itinerary tracker (main sheet)
- Trip Summary – Overview of total expenses, duration, and key highlights
- Accommodations – Booking details for hotels/Airbnbs with check-in/check-out logs
- Transportation Log – Flights, trains, rental cars with booking IDs and status
- Budget Tracker – Daily spending categories vs. allocated budget
- Notes & Contacts – Emergency contacts, local addresses, Wi-Fi passwords, and personal reminders
Table Structures & Columns (Daily Planner Sheet)
The core of the template is the Daily Planner, featuring a table with 10 structured columns:
| Column | Data Type | Description |

| Day of Week | Text (e.g., Monday) | =TEXT(A2,"dddd") |

| Estimated Time Start | Time (HH:MM) | e.g., 08:30 |
| Estimated Time End | Time (HH:MM) | e.g., 17:00. Auto-calculates duration. |
| Actual Time Start | Time (HH:MM) | User updates after activity. |
| Actual Time End | Time (HH:MM) | User updates; used to calculate delays or efficiency. |
Formulas Required
To automate tracking and reduce manual entry:
- Date Auto-fill: In cell A3: =A2+1 → drag down for entire trip duration.
- Duration Calculation (Column H): =IF(AND(F2<>"",G2<>""),G2-F2,"") — calculates planned hours.
- Delay Tracker (Column J): =IF(AND(I2<>"",H2<>""),I2-G2,"") — shows if actual end time exceeded plan.
- Daily Budget Sync: In Budget Tracker: =SUMIFS('Daily Planner'!K:K, 'Daily Planner'!A:A, TODAY()) to auto-sum daily spending from notes.
- Day Count: In Trip Summary: =COUNTA(DailyPlanner!A:A)-1 — counts active days.
Conditional Formatting
- Red Highlight: If Actual End > Estimated End by >1 hour → highlights row in red.
- Yellow Highlight: If activity is marked “Urgent” in notes column → yellow background.
- Green Highlight: If daily spending is within 80% of budget → light green fill.
- Bold Weekend Days: Saturdays and Sundays auto-formatted in bold with a different font color using formula: =OR(WEEKDAY(A2,2)=6,WEEKDAY(A2,2)=7)
