Data Types & Formulas Required

Travel Budget Planner:

  • Estimated Cost (USD): Currency format (e.g., $850.00) — all cells formatted as currency.
  • Status: Text dropdown with options: “Planned”, “Booked”, “Paid”.
  • Total Estimated Cost: Formula in cell B8: =SUM(B2:B7)

Loan Calculator (Amortization):

  • Payment #: Sequential integers (1, 2, 3…).
  • Payment Date: Uses Excel’s EDATE() function for monthly recurrence.
  • Monthly Payment: Calculated using PMT function:
    =PMT(Annual_Rate/12, Total_Months, -Loan_Amount)
  • Interest Paid: Uses IPMT function:
    =IPMT(Annual_Rate/12, Payment_Number, Total_Months, -Loan_Amount)
  • Principal Paid: Uses PPMT function:
    =PPMT(Annual_Rate/12, Payment_Number, Total_Months, -Loan_Amount)
  • Balloon Balance: Starts with the loan amount and subtracts cumulative principal paid.

Monthly Payment Tracker:

  • Planned Payment: Directly linked from the Loan Calculator sheet.
  • Status (On Time/Overdue): Formula: =IF(Actual_Payment >= Planned_Payment, "On Time", "Overdue")

Conditional Formatting

  • Total Estimated Cost: Highlighted in bold with a blue background if over $3,000.
  • Interest Paid Column: Color scale from light yellow (low) to red (high) to visualize cost distribution.
  • Status Columns: Green for “Paid”, yellow for “Booked”, red for “Overdue”.
  • Balloon Balance: Turns green when below 10% of original loan, signaling nearing repayment.
