Status Text (Formula-based: “Under Budget”, “On Track”, “Over Budget”) Determined by comparing actual vs. allocated budget.

Formulas Required

  • Budget Allocation: Uses VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP to pull the planned budget from the “Budget Planner” sheet based on the selected Category.
  • Status: =IF(SUMIFS(ExpenseTracker!$D:$D, ExpenseTracker!$B:$B, B2) > E2, "Over Budget", IF(SUMIFS(ExpenseTracker!$D:$D, ExpenseTracker!$B:$B, B2) = E2, "On Track", "Under Budget"))
  • Spent This Month: =SUMIFS(ExpenseTracker!$D:$D, ExpenseTracker!$B:$B, A2) where A2 contains the category name.
  • Total Spent: =SUM(ExpenseTracker!$D:$D)
  • Remaining Budget: =SUM(BudgetPlanner!$C:$C) - SUM(ExpenseTracker!$D:$D)

Conditional Formatting

To enhance visual tracking, the following conditional formatting rules are applied:

  • Highlighting High Spenders: Any expense over $50 in the “Amount” column is highlighted in orange.
  • Dates Near Trip Start: In the “Travel Itinerary”, dates within 3 days of today are highlighted in yellow.
