I was fortunate enough to join one of Cairo's leading fintech startups. The company specializes in providing innovative credit scoring solutions based on alternative data sources such as mobile usage patterns and social media activity . As a Data Scientist intern, I had the opportunity to work closely with senior engineers who mentored me through various aspects of building predictive models.

Data Preprocessing:

• HANDLING missing values through imputation techniques or deletion strategies;

Predictive Modeling: Building regression models for predicting loan default rates based on user behavior metrics.

Skill Development During The Internship

PYTHON PROGRAMMING:

• HAD TO IMPROVE MY ABILITY IN WRITING EFFICIENT CODE FOR LARGE-SCALE DATA ANALYSIS PROJECTS

MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS: Gained hands-on experience implementing algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Random Forests and Gradient Boosting Machines.

CLOUD PLATFORMS:

• BECAME FAMILIAR WITH AWS SERVICES SPECIFICALLY AMAZON S3 FOR DATA STORAGE AND AMAZON EC2 FOR COMPUTING POWER

Challenges Faced

LIMITED COMPUTATIONAL RESOURCES:

• DUE TO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS,WE HAD LIMITED ACCESS TO HIGH-END GPU CLUSTERS WHICH SLowed DOWN OUR MODEL TRAINING PROCESS significantly;

Data Privacy Concerns: Navigating complex regulations regarding personal data protection while developing our algorithms required extensive collaboration with legal teams.

The Egyptian government has shown strong support for technological innovation through various programs aimed at fostering digital transformation across different sectors including healthcare ,education and finance .As a result,there is an increasing demand for skilled professionals capable of leveraging big data analytics to drive business decisions.

In particular,the fintech sector in Cairo has seen remarkable growth over the past few years due to rising smartphone penetration rates among young Egyptians who are increasingly turning towards mobile banking solutions rather traditional brick-and-mortar banks.This trend presents numerous opportunities for Data Scientists interested in exploring new frontiers within financial technology.
