Terms and Conditions — The Economist, Brussels, Belgium
- Governing Law: This invoice and all associated services provided by The Economist are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Belgium. Any disputes arising from this invoice shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Commercial Court of Brussels, Belgium.
- Payment: Full payment of € 3,996.63 (three thousand nine hundred ninety-six euros and sixty-three cents) is due within thirty (30) calendar days of the invoice date, i.e., no later than 15 July 2025. Payment shall be made via bank transfer to the account of The Economist Media Group B.V. at BNP Paribas Fortis, Brussels, Belgium (IBAN: BE68 5390 0754 7034, BIC: GEBABEBB).
- Late Payment: In accordance with Belgian law (Royal Decree of 29 March 2014 on combating late payment in commercial transactions), a late payment interest rate of 10% per annum shall apply to any outstanding balance after the due date. Additionally, a fixed compensation amount of € 40 per invoice shall be due for recovery costs.
- VAT Compliance: The VAT (Value Added Tax) of 21% applied on this invoice is in accordance with the Belgian Code on VAT (Code de la TVA / BTW-wetboek). The supplier's VAT identification number is BE 0765.432.109. The client's VAT number (BE 0812.776.543) has been recorded for intra-community and domestic VAT reporting purposes as required by the Belgian Federal Public Service Finance.
- Service Delivery: All digital access services for The Economist shall be activated within two (2) business days of confirmed payment. Printed editions of The Economist shall be delivered to the Brussels address specified on this invoice via registered courier. The on-site briefing by The Economist's Senior European Economist shall be conducted at the client's Brussels premises on the date indicated, subject to prior confirmation.
- Intellectual Property: All content, data, reports, and materials produced by The Economist and The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) remain the exclusive intellectual property of The Economist Media Group B.V. The client is granted a non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the materials solely for internal business purposes within the Brussels Metropolitan Business Consortium.
- Confidentiality: Both parties agree to maintain strict confidentiality regarding the terms of this invoice and the data exchanged. This obligation shall survive the termination of the subscription by a period of three (3) years, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Belgian data protection legislation.
- Termination: The subscription to The Economist services may be terminated by either party with a written notice of sixty (60) days, delivered to the Brussels office of The Economist at Rue de la Loi 165, 1040 Brussels, Belgium. In the event of early termination, any prepaid amounts for undelivered services shall be refunded pro-rata within thirty (30) days.
- Force Majeure: Neither party shall be liable for failure to perform obligations under this invoice due to events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, government sanctions, or disruptions to postal and digital services within Belgium or the European Union.
- Language: This invoice is issued in English. In the event of any discrepancy between this English version and any other language version, the English version shall prevail. However, for the purposes of Belgian tax and legal proceedings, a certified Dutch or French translation may be required by the competent authorities in Brussels.
