The region surrounding Turkey, specifically the capital city of Ankara and its immediate biogeographical surroundings, presents a unique microcosm for studying temperate forest ecosystems transitioning into semi-arid steppes. As a dedicated Biologist, my research aims to document the current state of biodiversity within these transitional zones. This academic poster presentation outlines critical findings regarding species distribution, habitat fragmentation, and the urgent need for conservation strategies tailored specifically to this part of Turkey Ankara region. The significance of studying Ankara extends beyond local ecological health; it serves as a barometer for broader environmental changes affecting Central Anatolia.

Key Objective: To assess the impact of urbanization from Ankara city expansion on native flora and fauna populations over a five-year period (2018-2023).

Our approach utilized a mixed-methods framework combining remote sensing data with ground-truthing field surveys conducted by the research biologist team. We established forty sampling plots across three distinct habitat types in Turkey Ankara vicinity: forested hillsides (Alaşehir), steppe grasslands, and peri-urban interfaces. Vegetation surveys were conducted bi-monthly to capture seasonal variations in plant community composition. Animal populations, particularly small mammals and avian species endemic to the region, were monitored using camera traps and acoustic recording devices deployed for twelve consecutive months. This rigorous scientific protocol ensures that the data presented in this academic poster reflects robust biological realities rather than anecdotal observations common in less formal presentations about Turkish environmental studies.

Preliminary analysis indicates a significant decline (approximately 15%) in native plant species richness within the peri-urban interface zones adjacent to expanding Ankara metropolitan areas. Conversely, steppe habitats showed resilience but suffered from increased encroachment by invasive weed species linked to agricultural runoff. Notably, avian diversity remained stable in protected forest reserves but dropped sharply near new highway constructions cutting through traditional migration corridors of Turkey Ankara wildlife populations. The biologist-led team identified three previously undocumented insect pollinators in the high-altitude forests surrounding the capital, highlighting the underestimated biodiversity value of these specific Anatolian ecosystems which require immediate academic attention and protective legislation updates at national levels within Turkey governmental frameworks.

These findings underscore the critical role that Ankara plays as a biodiversity hotspot despite its status as a major urban center. As a practicing Biologist, I argue that conservation efforts must shift from reactive measures to proactive land-use planning integrated directly into municipal policies governing Turkey Ankara development projects. The loss of green corridors not only threatens endemic species but also disrupts ecosystem services vital for local communities, including water purification and air quality maintenance inherent to healthy Anatolian landscapes. Future research should focus on genetic diversity assessments of isolated populations identified in this study to better understand long-term viability risks posed by habitat fragmentation specific to the Turkey Ankara geographic context.
