INTRODUCTION & OBJECTIVES

This academic poster explores the evolving definition of the Film Director within the context of modern European cinema. While traditional film theory often centers on the "Auteur Theory," this presentation argues that in contemporary Spanish filmmaking, direction is a complex negotiation between artistic vision, political necessity, and economic reality.

The primary objective is to analyze how directors operating out of Spain Madrid, the cultural capital of Spain, utilize visual language to address historical memory and social identity. By examining key case studies from the last two decades, we aim to demonstrate how the director functions not merely as a technical overseer but as a cultural mediator.

METHODOLOGY

This study employs a qualitative comparative analysis. The research framework focuses on three critical dimensions of the director's craft:
