This academic poster presentation explores the multifaceted role of the musician within the socio-cultural fabric of Pakistan Islamabad. As the capital city, Islamabad represents a unique intersection of traditional heritage and modern cosmopolitanism. Unlike Lahore or Karachi, which are historically steeped in specific musical lineages (Gharanas), Islamabad serves as a hub for diplomatic corps, civil servants, and an emerging middle class that consumes music both locally and globally.

The primary objective of this study is to analyze how the musician in Pakistan Islamabad navigates identity formation, economic survival, and cultural preservation. The research argues that the contemporary musician in Islamabad is not merely an entertainer but a critical agent of social dialogue, bridging the gap between elite political circles and grassroots folk traditions.

Methodology

To understand the current state of musicianship in this region, our research employed a mixed-methods approach. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 50 active musicians ranging from classical Qawwals performing at the Faisal Mosque complex to contemporary indie rock bands practicing in D-Chowk and F-9 Park areas.
