This report argues that it should also become the technical heart of East Africa's maritime logistics sector. By positioning Addis Ababa as a center for Marine Engineering education and consultancy, Ethiopia can exert greater influence over its trade routes, ensuring that the complexities of ship maintenance, port operations, and international maritime law are managed by highly skilled local professionals.

The primary goal of this project is to cultivate a new generation of competent Marine Engineers within Ethiopia. The specific objectives include:

  The curriculum designed for this project is tailored to meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards while addressing the specific needs of the Horn of Africa's trade routes.   4.1 Core Marine Engineering Modules

  The core engineering courses will focus on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and electrical systems as they apply to maritime vessels. Students will learn about the maintenance of diesel engines and gas turbines commonly found in cargo ships operating between Djibouti and Addis Ababa's dry ports.

  A critical aspect of modern Marine Engineering is understanding the broader logistics chain.
