This Purchase Order is issued by the University of Auckland to formally engage a University Lecturer for the academic year 2025/2026. The University Lecturer shall be responsible for delivering teaching, supervising postgraduate research students, and contributing to the academic and research output of the Department of Environmental Science within the Faculty of Science. The engagement is structured in accordance with the New Zealand Academic Staff Classification and the university's internal procurement policies governing the hiring of academic personnel in Auckland, New Zealand.

The University Lecturer is expected to fulfil the following core responsibilities as outlined in this Purchase Order:

  • Deliver a minimum of 18 contact hours per week across undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Environmental Science, Climate Systems, and Sustainable Resource Management.
  • Supervise a minimum of three (3) Master's by Research students and one (1) Doctoral candidate per academic year.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of course curricula in alignment with the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) and the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) guidelines applicable in New Zealand Auckland institutions.
  • Participate in faculty governance meetings, curriculum committees, and the annual academic planning cycle of the University of Auckland.
  • Produce a minimum of two (2) peer-reviewed journal publications per year in recognised international journals.
  • Maintain active engagement with the broader academic community in Auckland, New Zealand, including participation in at least two (2) national or international conferences annually.
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Department, including marking, moderation, and student assessment activities.

All amounts are stated in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and are inclusive of applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the current rate of 15% as mandated by the Inland Revenue Department of New Zealand. The University of Auckland, located in Auckland, New Zealand, shall process all payments via electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the nominated bank account of the University Lecturer.

  1. This Purchase Order constitutes a binding agreement between the University of Auckland and the appointed University Lecturer for the duration specified herein. Both parties acknowledge that this engagement is governed by the laws of New Zealand, including the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the Education (Pastoral Care of Education International Students) Code of Practice.
  2. The University Lecturer shall comply with all policies, codes of conduct, and academic integrity standards established by the University of Auckland and the broader New Zealand tertiary education sector.
  3. Any amendments to the scope of work, financial terms, or duration of this Purchase Order must be made in writing and signed by both the authorised representative of the University of Auckland and the University Lecturer.
  4. The University Lecturer is required to maintain professional indemnity insurance and any other insurances as prescribed by the university's risk management framework for staff based in Auckland, New Zealand.
  5. Confidentiality obligations apply to all student records, research data, and internal university communications. Breach of confidentiality shall be subject to disciplinary action and potential legal proceedings under New Zealand law.
  6. Termination of this Purchase Order may occur with a written notice period of three (3) months by either party, in accordance with the university's staff employment policies and applicable New Zealand employment legislation.
  7. All intellectual property produced by the University Lecturer during the course of this engagement shall be governed by the University of Auckland's Intellectual Property Policy, with appropriate attribution and revenue-sharing arrangements as defined therein.
  8. This Purchase Order is subject to the university's annual budget approval cycle. Should the allocated funding for the University Lecturer position be reduced or withdrawn by the New Zealand government or the university's board of trustees, the terms of this Purchase Order may be renegotiated in good faith.
