Thank you for your enquiry regarding the engagement of a senior academic for professional development and research advisory services. This Quotation Estimate has been prepared in accordance with the University of Birmingham's standard procurement procedures and reflects the current fee structure for Professor-level academic services delivered within the Birmingham, United Kingdom region. All figures below are provided in British Pounds Sterling (GBP) and are subject to the terms and conditions outlined in this document.
Scope of Services – Professor Engagement
This Quotation Estimate covers the provision of a Professor of Applied Engineering and Technology (Professor Alan R. Blackwood, CEng, MICE, FRAeS) for a period of twelve (12) months, commencing 1 October 2025. The Professor will be based at the University of Birmingham's Edgbaston campus and will deliver services primarily within the Birmingham, United Kingdom metropolitan area, with occasional travel to partner sites in the West Midlands. The engagement is structured to provide the client with access to world-class academic expertise, research oversight, and professional mentorship.

All rates are exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated. VAT is applied at the standard rate of 20% in accordance with HM Revenue & Customs regulations applicable in the United Kingdom. This Quotation Estimate does not include any third-party costs for venue hire, printing, or external accreditation fees, which will be billed at actual cost if incurred.
Terms and Conditions
- This Quotation Estimate is valid for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of issue. Should the client wish to proceed after the validity period, a revised Quotation Estimate reflecting any updated fee structures will be issued.
- The Professor's engagement is subject to the University of Birmingham's academic calendar and institutional policies. Any conflict with scheduled teaching or examination periods will be communicated in writing no fewer than fourteen (14) days in advance.
- Payment terms: 30% of the total Quotation Estimate value is due upon acceptance of this document; the remaining 70% shall be invoiced in equal quarterly instalments in arrears, payable within thirty (30) days of invoice date.
- All services will be delivered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the University of Birmingham's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion framework. The Professor will ensure that all training and advisory sessions are accessible and inclusive.
- Confidentiality: Both parties agree to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all proprietary information exchanged during the engagement. A separate Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be executed prior to the commencement of services.
- Intellectual property generated jointly during the research supervision component (Item 02) shall be owned jointly by the University of Birmingham and the client, as detailed in a separate IP Schedule to be agreed upon acceptance.
- Termination: Either party may terminate the engagement with sixty (60) days' written notice. In the event of early termination, the client shall be liable for all services rendered up to the termination date plus a cancellation fee of 10% on the remaining contract value.
- This Quotation Estimate is governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from this engagement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
- The Professor reserves the right to decline any specific request that falls outside the agreed scope of services or that conflicts with the University of Birmingham's research ethics guidelines.
Acceptance and Authorisation
By signing below, the client confirms acceptance of this Quotation Estimate and agrees to the terms and conditions set out herein. The University of Birmingham will proceed with the formal appointment of the Professor and the scheduling of all deliverables within ten (10) working days of receipt of the signed acceptance and the initial 30% payment.
