Len Crome 2013 - Orwell and 'Homage to Catalonia' - The Len Crome lecture for 2013 was held in Manchester on 2nd March. There were four speakers who discussed George Orwell, his book 'Homage to Catalonia' and its effect on our understanding of the Spanish Civil War. About 200 people attended the conference, creating a vibrant day of lectures and discussion. 'Homage to Catalonia' was published in 1938 and 2013 is the 75th anniversary of its publication. Beginning with the poster for the event (which has a lot of added information with it), a title image and a photograph of the speakers, the Len Crome 2013 IBMTnews Flickr set features eight mini-videos in the order of their running on the day and then presents a series of photographs and images. Aragon Tour 2014 - October 2014 and our coach party of 30 drove to Huesca to enjoy that legendary cup of coffee - "Tomorrow we'll have coffee in Huesca," the milicanos had said as they faced the occupying forces of General Franco along the Aragon Front 1936 - 38. An IBMT tour of sites of interest concerning the Spanish Civil War and the International Brigades in Aragon. ABERDEEN - IBMT AGM 2015 - Grampian Pipes and Drums leading the march to Castlegate in Aberdeen. This was one of the many events of the weekend of the 17th/18th October 2015 commemorating the International Brigades and the volunteers from Aberdeen as well as the IBMT AGM. The International Brigade Memorial Trust keeps alive the memory and spirit of the men and women from Britain, Ireland and elsewhere who volunteered to defend democracy and fight fascism in Spain from 1936 to 1939. Belfast Spanish Civil War Window - On Tuesday 24th November 2015 a stained glass window was unveiled commemorating the 48 men from Belfast - 12 died - who went to Spain.	19
ILP commemoration - Rededicating the memorial to the ILP volunteers who went to Spain to fight fascism and support democracy at the Working Class Movement Library, Salford, Manchester, 24th September 2016. Sculptured plaques to John Cornford and Bob Smiley were unveiled. A eulogy for John Cornford was given by Dolores Long and a letter from the sculptor Frank Casey was read by Charles Jepson. Present were relatives of ILP volunteers including three generations of ILP volunteer Bob Edwards family. Also present: Richard Blair (George Orwell's son), Quentin Kopp (son of POUM commander Georges Kopp), Dolores Long (daughter of Sam Wild Commander of the British Battalion), Short talks about the ILP, the early militias and early British volunteers were given by Chris Hall, Richard Cleminson and Marshall Mateer. On 'The ILP Today' by Barry Winter and 'The IBMT' by Hiliary Jones. The Clarion Cyclists Choir sang three songs. The event was held at the WCML in Salford near Manchester.	20
Dublin 2016 - The IBMT AGM was held in Dublin in October 2016. It was held in Liberty Hall, the HQ of Ireland's largest union SIPTU. The AGM was given an address by the President of Ireland, Higgins 'The International Brigades' - in which he wove their story into Irelands history past and present. Other events include an unveiling at UNITE the union. A fundraiser at the Teacher's Centre. 2016 is the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising in Ireland. Len Crome 2017 - IBMT Len Crome Memorial Lecture, Manchester, 18th March 2017 Dolores Long opened and closed the the conference with a welcome to all. Peter Crome talked about his father Len Crome, who initiated the Len Crome Memorial Lectures and presented a bouquet to Rosemary Williams, daughter of Brigader Archie Williams, on her 80th birthday - 80 years since her father was imprisoned after Jarama. Dr. Richard Baxell talked about the 'Legacy of the Brigaders', and the building databases of historical evidence national and pan national such as the SidBrint project. Manus O'Riordan introduced David Leach's film 'Voices from a Mountain' with a personal memory of David, who died last year. Giles Tremlett talked about "historical memory" in Spain and was presented with a copy of the IBMT 'Antifascistas' book - now in Spanish - by IBMT President Marlene Sidaway. Chris Hall made an appeal for funds to raise a memorial to Madge Addy, a nurse with the brigades. The Mad Donnas saw the conference out with songs of the Civil War and radicalism. Members of the audience contributed much in questions to speakers and in open debate. We welcomed a group of young Spaniards from the Manchester 'Marea Granete' organisation. The' IBMT Film Montage 2017' by Marshall Mateer was shown during the intervals. The annual commemoration will take place in Jubilee Gardens on London's South Bank on 1st July at 1.00pm.. ALL WELCOME. Summer in the City: Hull 2017 - Summer in the City (of Hull) including the Basque Children Event. Hull International Memorial Group events 2017, to organise, develop and fund a public monument to the eight men from Hull who went to Spain between 1936-38 to support democracy and fight fascism. They were supported by hundreds of people from Hull; four were killed - four returned.	40
