The layering of designs on this dish illustrates the dense and precise decoration that typifies the art of the Qianlong period in China. A short-handled fan with a bird perched on a flowering branch fills the center of this small plate. The fan is painted above large flowers in pink and green that are, in turn, placed against a lush background of smaller blossoms in black (possibly silver) and white.
