This statue is one of the earliest representations of a Hindu goddess from Southeast Asia. It is carved in the early style of peninsular Thailand, which derives from the idioms of southern India, particularly in the treatment of drapery. The identification of this four-armed goddess is tentative. She holds a bell in her left hand and a round object, possibly a symbol of the Earth (bhu), in her right. In front of what remains of the back of her right arm is part of a shaft, probably belonging to a trident, Shiva\u2019s weapon.
