This rare bronze object was likely a censer with a pierced, conical lid. The base is supported by an encircling ring of ganas (semidivineprotective deities) that are surmounted by an open lotus flower supporting a narrative that runs around the shoulder of the vessel. Illustrating an episode from one of the Buddha's former lives (jatakas), this scene ends with a public musical competition between two harp (vina) players.
