During the 1760s and 1770s, the artist Bagta worked at the Mewari court and in the Mewari style. However, he and his son, Chokha, evolved a family style characterized, in part, by long, upturned eyes and a steep, somewhat flattened profile. Their work must have been popular, as imitations can be found as far away as the Muslim court of Radhanpur in Gujarat. The two also began to work for one of the Mewari Maharana\u2019s leading nobles, the rawat of Devgarh, where the family eventually migrated. It is unclear whether this painting was made in Mewar or in Devgarh on the occasion of a visit by the Mewari Maharana Bhim Singh.
