This commemorative thirteen-cent stamp depicts General George Washington (1732-1799) praying at Valley Forge. The design is based on the famous painting "The Prayer at Valley Forge" by Arnold Friberg. This stamp was a part of the United States Bicentennial celebration in which the United States Postal Service issued 113 different commemorative stamps over a six-year period. This stamp was issued in sheets of 90 stamps per sheet and was issued as one of the Christmas stamps in 1977.
