Walker in the mouth of the Rock Springs cave in Kelly Park near Apopka. When we lived in Lockhart and Orlando we would visit the county park often, especially in the summer. Favorite thing was snorkel the run, jump in at the cave, shoot the chute underwater, then swim down the shallow sandy bottom spring watch fish and lots of aquatic plants and cold cool fresh spring water, water is constant 72 degrees so it was ice cold in the summer and warm in the winter. We camped here lots of times from Boy scouts all the way through college and later even when I lived in Palm Bay on the East Coast. It was a fabulous place form growing up high schoolers and young adults to have a great natural playground. There's on main hiking trail everyone walked the circle, and several camping areas. Also spent lots of weekends canoeing the run down to Wekiva Springs and the restaurant. Lots of memories float along the spring to the Wekiva River 'bridge to nowhere' still stands after nearly 60 years. Built in 1959, he 160-foot-long concrete overpass spans the Wekiva River connecting Seminole County with Wekiwa Springs State Park in Orange County near Apopka And not a single car has ever traveled the two-lane span since it was built in 1959.
Dr. Howard A. Kelly Park, often called Kelly Park, is a protected area which is owned by Orange County, Florida. It lies about 17 miles (27 kilometers) northwest of Orlando. It shares some of its boundaries with Wekiwa Springs State Park and Rock Springs Run State Reserve. The Rock Springs Run, a 10-mile (16 km)-long tributary of the Wekiva River, has its source near the northern boundary of Kelly Park.
