I spent my last 6 years as a Merchant Marine aboard the Watson. Mearsk Lines would fly us to and from the ship wherever the ship might be. I was the only electrician on board, but if I ever needed help, the Electronics Officer would work with me. For the first few years the ship stayed at Diego Garcia, a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The last few years it stayed in Saipan a small Island in the Pacific. We worked 4 months on and four months off supposedly. There were quite a few times that they could not find another electrician to relieve me, so I would end up staying 6-8 months depending on how long it took them to find a relief.
