Polish Unity Is Theme Of White Eagle Jubilee



Need for unity among the Polish people everywhere and the.
"cultivation of their ties of friendship with those still waiting for
liberation in their homeland behind the Iron Curtain" was stressed by Dr.
T. Brzezinski, former consul-general in Montreal of the Polish
government-in-exile at golden jubilee celebrations of the Polish White Eagle
Society here yesterday. ,



Dr. Brzezinski. president of the Canadian Polish Congress,
was chairman of the meeting which saw 1,200 members of the Polish community
gather at Plateau Hall.



He introduced Canon J. Drouin who represented Archbishop
Leger. The audience applauded the elevation of Msgr. Leger to cardinal.



The society was formed in 1902 and is the second-oldest
Polish lay society in Canada and the oldest group of its kind in the province.
A few of its first officers attended the jubilee.







A hope that "Poland will be free again\u201d was expressed
by A.A. Gardiner, former CNR official known as \u201cCanada\u2019s greatest friend of the
New Canadians\u201d and hoder of the Order of the Polish Eagle.



Director J. Langlois of the Montreal ' branch of Immigration
Department, also attended.



F. Lawruszczuk. chairman of the jubilee committee, and
Zbigniew Waruszynski. managing editor of a Jubilee Book prepared by the society,
presented copies of book to the guests. the

Free' Ukraine Leader Doesn't Seek U.N. Seat



Dr. Stepan Wytwytsky, foreign minister of the Ukraine when
the Red Army overran that country in 1920, said here Saturday his
Government-in-exile will not seek admission to the U.N. "despite the fact
we represent the genuine wishes of the country."



"Any further strife in the U.N. would only impede
Allied efforts for world peace. The Soviet-dominated Ukraine representative in
the U.N. is only a stooge for Stalin but it would be unfeasible to dislodge them
now,"





The exiled government, formed along the pattern of the last
free government, is known as the Ukrainian National Council. Dr. Wytwytsky is
foreign minister and representative to the United States.
