DeviantArt description: Mithras was a Persian Zoroastrian god, adopted by the Romans into the religion of Mithraism that flourished in their empire for about four centuries. It was seen as a major rival to early Christianity, but had all been eliminated by the 400s. This relief of Mithras slaying a bull was formerly purchased by an antique collector in Toronto, who hung it over his fireplace and let it adorn his house as a conversation piece during parties. When the house was slated for demolition, the relief was salvaged and then given to the Royal Ontario Museum, where it remains to this day.
